BUSINESS CARD BLOG!
STANDARD BUSINESS CARD SIZES: - 2 inches high x 3.5 Inches wide is standard business card size.
- However, many business cards do not conform to regular sizes as a way to separate themselves from the competition.
- Business cards are the most important tool when trying to get ones name into the open world. Whether you're talking to a random person on the street, or an executive of a company, you should never be unprepared.
- Many business cards are also attempting to use die-cutting to make unique shapes. This is not such a good Idea, while it is creative and stands out it does not fit in a wallet as it was meant to.
- Go for cheap and effective, there is no use paying a lot of money on a card if you only plan on buying fifty or so, have a large quantity so you can spread your name. You never want to be in a preferential business situation and not have a business card ready.
Through My research I have discovered many things about business cards:
- Business cards are the most important tool when trying to get ones name into the open world. Whether you're talking to a random person on the street, or an executive of a company, you should never be unprepared.
- Only essential information should be presented when printing business cards.
- Name
- Address of store/workplace
- Phone number (with extension if necessary)
- Website (not always necessary unless the site is specifically about you)
- Fax Number (Older clients may still prefer this way of sending documents so be prepared)
- When making business cards it is always important that you remember your brand (yes, I listened in class). Always remember to connect back to why you are a business.
- Break apart your logo, use different pieces of the design to create a unique design that will impress whoever recieves the business card.
- With the business card above you can see that the designer utilized the logo throughout the entire business card, as well the color palate.
- The colors on business cards should be simple enough to look professional but not too flashy so it doesn't draw attention away from the information on the card.
LETTERS AND ENVELOPES:
Sizes and Regualtions:
Unlike business cards, envelopes have sizes that are mandated by the postal service.
There are many different envelopes with different sizing.
- #4 Envelopes are 3.625 x 5.125 inches
- #5 Envelopes are 4.125 x 5.5 inches
- A2 Envelopes are 4.375 x 5.75 inches
- A6 Envelopes are 4.65 x 6.5 inches
- A7 Envelopes are 5.25 x 7.25 inches
- A8 Envelopes are 5.5 x 8.125 inches
- A9 Envelopes are 5.75 x 8.75 inches
- A10 Envelopes are 6 x 9.5 inches
These envelopes have the choice of two standard flaps on the back
- Flat Flap (straight flap going along the envelope)
- Baronial Flap ( Triangular flap meeting at the middle of the envelope)
When trying to design a layout on an envelope you must remember where on the envelope you cannot have a graphic, the window, or postage area for example.
Pricing
Pricing on business cards and envelopes decided by many things such as:
- Size of the envelope/card
- Color used on envelope/card (whether it's full color, color on both sides, black & white)
- Material the business card is made out of (Card-stock, Carbon, plastic, or some other crazy material you can think of.)
- Like I said before, match quantity with quality. Make sure you don't burn a hole in your pocket trying to make someone put your card in their pocket.
